Frequently asked questions.
How long are sessions?
Sessions go for approximately 50 minutes.
How often should I have a session?
The time between appointments depends on your circumstances and is your choice. Typically sessions are fornightly.
What can I expect at my first session?
The first session is a bit different to a ‘typical’ session, as it consists of gathering information about your presenting problem/s, history and goals for therapy. For therapy to be effective you and your psychologist need to feel comfortable working together. Furthermore, if your psychologist identifies that they do not have the appropriate training or expertise, they will refer you to an appropriate service.
What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?
We understand that life happens and that you may need to cancel your upcoming appointment. We require at least 24 hours notice so that we have the opportunity to fill your appointment.
Do you charge a cancellation fee?
Yes, if less than 24 hours' notification is received, you will incur a cancellation fee of $105. For on the day cancellation/no show a full fee of $210 is charged.
Please note that Medicare does not offer you a refund for a cancellation fee.
Why do you charge a cancellation fee?
Your psychologist spends time preparing for your session and sets a dedicated appointment aside for you. If there is a last minute cancellation, it is not always possible to fill that appointment. As a private clinic, we do not receive any other funding to provide these services. However, we still incur costs associated with offering a psychological service to clients. Therefore, we need to charge a cancellation fee to cover these costs.
Do you do assessments?
No, at this stage we do not offer formal assessments, however we hope to provide this service in the future. We will be able to refer you to an appropriate service.
Do you offer Telehealth appointments?
Telehealth is available to those who prefer or need it. You may opt for a phone call or an online video consultation. If you prefer a video consultation, please make sure that you have internet connection, a camera (if you choose to use it) and a microphone.
Telehealth appointments are eligible for Medicare rebates.
How do I get a rebate from Medicare?
Medicare will offer you a rebate if you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). To assess if you are eligible for the MHTP, you will need to make an appointment with your doctor, who will work with you to assess your needs.
Benefits of a Mental Health Treatment Plan?
You will be eligible to access up to 10 sessions per calendar year, as well as 10 group sessions. Normally, you receive up to 6 initial sessions, after which a brief report will be sent to your GP, informing them of your progress and any recommendations as to whether you need any additional sessions.
Do you write court reports?
We do not write court reports or offer mandatory counselling that require a report/s.
